“For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.”
“And God said, Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the heavens, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over all the creepers creeping on the earth.”
God’s intent for the creation of man is well spelt out in Genesis 1:26. God intended for man to be His image and His likeness or resemblance. God did not make man a defeated being, no! God did not make man a wretch, no! God is not a failure; He is not a wretch therefore He could not have made man, who is His image, a failure and a wretch. Today’s opening Scripture reveals that God made man a little lower than ‘angels’. The word ‘angels’ in the original manuscript is ‘Elohim’ which is God. It was a translation error. It should have read: “For thou hast made him a little lower than God (Elohim), and hast crowned him with glory and honour.” God made man just a shade lower than Himself, and crowned him with glory and honour. Man is a being of glory and honour. It was sin that ripped man apart in shame and ignominy; but thank God for the redemption of man’s honour made available to us in the substitutionary work of Christ. Hallelujah! Beloved, you are a being of great honour and grace in Christ Jesus. God has crowned you with glory and honour. You are not to be looked down upon, no! You are to be looked up to. That’s who you are.
We know from the Bible who God is. He is King of kings, Lord of lords. We know that He reigns over all. Just like man cannot cast the shadow of a dog, the reigning God couldn’t have cast an image of defeat. The intent and marching order at the creation of man in Genesis 1:26 says “…Let them have dominion…” Evidently, man outside of Christ is not the image of God as intended in the beginning. Something tragic happened in the Garden of Eden when man transgressed the Word of God; and all that man became at the fall is what the Bible calls the old man. 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us that everyone in Christ is a new creature; a new man. The fact that there is a new man suggests to us that there was an old man. The old man is the man of sin; the man who is subject to and in union with the devil. That man doesn’t have the capacity to reflect God; therefore the old man is not the true image of God. Meaning, you cannot look at the old man, and see and know God; he is actually a reflection of satan. But the man in Christ is the image of God, created after Jesus Christ in true holiness and righteousness; He is crowned with glory and honour!
My Solid Front (Confession): I declare that I am a product of the conception of God’s mind; I am made in His image, therefore I am like Him. He is King of kings, therefore I am a king. He is Lord of lords, therefore I declare that I am a lord; property-lord, land-lord, business-lord in Jesus Name. Amen.
