Christ – The Anointed One

Luke 4:18

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.

Acts 10:38

“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”

The Bible tells us that when our Lord was born on the earth, He was called Jesus. The Name Jesus is a reflection of His assignment in the world. He came to save the world from sin and all its consequences. Matthew 1:21 tells us that “…. She (Mary) shall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins”. The Name Jesus means Saviour.

Then the Bible tells us that when Jesus was about thirty years old, He went to river Jordan to be baptized of John, and the Spirit of God came upon Him like a dove, and He was endued with power. At that point, the Christ dimension came upon Jesus the Saviour according to that which was prophesied by Isaiah the prophet in Isaiah 61:1-3. He was anointed with the Holy Spirit, and He went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed by the devil (Acts 10:38).

The resurrection power on Jesus with which He gave life to the sick and raised the dead, and worked mighty miracles was the power of the Holy Spirit. He didn’t work miracles until He was anointed of the Spirit of God. In fact, Jesus’ ministry actually began when the Spirit of God came upon Him. This was proof that He was anointed of the Spirit to do all that He did. Indeed, He had put off divinity when He put on humanity, and needed to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit. Beloved, if you are in Christ, you are in the Anointed One. This means that you share in His anointing. You are a partaker of His Christhood. Be strengthened in Him in Jesus’ Name!

My Solid Front (Confession): I declare that Jesus is the Christ; the Anointed One. I am in Him, and He is in me therefore I share in His anointing. Amen.

Further Meditation: Matthew 11:2-5; Matthew 16:13-17.
