February 11: Pattern your Life after God

Ephesians 5:1-2

“Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savour”

1 John 4:17

Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

To imitate God is to follow in His steps. One cannot follow in God’s steps without being a possessor of the divine life. You can only act like the one of whom you are. 1 John 4:4 tells us that we are of God; we are born of Him in Christ. The man in Christ is a possessor of the divine life; we are partakers of the divine nature. Being born again is to be born of the incorruptible Word of God, which lives and abides forever (1 Peter 1:23); which is the very life and nature of the Father God. The child of God is a possessor of God’s very life and nature; therefore, we can imitate God in every sense of following in His steps.

Imitating God, following in His steps, according to our opening Scripture, is walking in love as Christ has loved us, and has given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. This is sacrificial love; love unfeigned, without hypocrisy. It is the Jesus kind of love that gives people beyond gifts, it gives self. Just as much as Jesus gave Himself for us as an offering and a sacrifice, we are giving ourselves as an offering and a sacrifice to serve the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to serve one another in Christ. Galatians 5:13 tells us that we have been called unto liberty but not to use it for an occasion to the flesh, but by love we are to serve one another. Giving yourself and your resources to be a blessing to others is one key way to imitate God, just as Jesus has demonstrated for us by giving His life to serve us and bless us. What are you going to do to be a blessing to someone today? In what way(s) are you going to let the world see the light of God’s love for them today? Preach the Gospel; touch a soul, help somebody, today!

My Solid Front (Confession):

In the Name of Jesus, I declare that I am a love being, and I walk in love as the Lord Jesus has loved me by giving Himself for me an offering and a sacrifice unto God. I give myself to serve the Church and the world in the ministry of the Word, prayer and helps. Amen.

Further Meditation:

Acts 6:4; Philippians 1:9-11.
