Growing in Grace II

2 Corinthians 3:18

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

1 Peter 2:2

“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:”

The believer’s priority in Christ ought to be spiritual maturity. Growing in grace is the only true measure of spiritual growth, therefore it is important that the Christian who has spiritual maturity as his goal is growing in grace daily. Attaining unto the fullness of the measure of the stature of Christ requires consistent growth in grace and this is only possible through hunger for the Word of God. 1 Peter 2:2 tells us to desire the sincere milk of the Word that we may grow thereby, which means that it takes hunger for the Word and feeding upon it to attain unto spiritual growth.

Appetite for the Word is necessary for the believer to grow in grace, without which growth is stalled. The Word is the agent of spiritual growth. The Holy Spirit’s ministry is to reveal the Word to us and teach us the Word that we might grow by it. 2 Corinthians 3:18 shows us that as we behold the glory of the Lord in the mirror of the Word, we are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even by the Spirit of the Lord.

The Holy Spirit’s cardinal ministry is to transform or change us from glory to glory as we behold the glory of the Lord in the Word. This is the reason why meditating on the Word and living by it is very important for spiritual growth in God’s grace. Giving attention to the Word of God’s grace is the foundation of growing in the grace of God. Having learnt the Word and internalized it by meditation, giving expression to it by acting upon the Word is the cause of spiritual growth in God’s grace in Christ. Beloved, give earnest heed to the Word, to meditate on it and to do it. This is the principle of spiritual growth.

My Solid Front (Confession): In the Name of Jesus Christ, I declare that I am a doer of God’s Word. I give myself to following God’s plan for my spiritual growth in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
