The Importance of the Fear of the Lord

July 25: God Upholds All Things by the Word of His Power

Hebrews 1:3

“Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power….”

2 Corinthians 2:14

“Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place”

God created the universe by His Word. The Word is the material source for the creation of all things (John 1:1-3). Hebrews 11:3 tells us that through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God, so that things that are seen were not made out of things which do appear. The invisible Word of God created the visible world. This is faith’s appreciation and understanding. It is only by faith that we do appreciate and understand that the Word created all things. Sense knowledge-ruled people who only respond to sensual evidences cannot appreciate this truth. However, the believer believes and knows that the Word is the material source of all creatures. This
forms the basis of our faith in God that the spiritual controls the physical. The invisible Word rules the visible world. Therefore we live by faith in the Word as we exercise dominion on the earth, in the Name of Jesus Christ.
Not only did the Word create all things, it also sustains or upholds them. Our opening Scripture tells us that God upholds all things by the Word of His power. This shows how powerful God’s Word is. The Word of God is full of potent and dynamic power to create and uphold. 1 Peter 1:23 tells us that we were born again by the incorruptible seed of God’s Word, which lives and abides forever. In Christ, we are offsprings of the Word. We have been born of the living Word and are upheld or sustained by it. Matthew 4:4 tells us that we live by the Word. Is it any wonder that we live by the Word, seeing that we were born of it? That’s the reason why we meditate on and act upon the Word daily, for we are sustained by it.
Beloved, give attention to the Word as you act upon it daily. Refuse to let anything sway you from
your devotion to the Word.

My Solid Front (Confession): In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I declare that I am upheld and
sustained by the Word. I put my gaze and total devotion on the Word to meditate upon and live by
it, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Further Meditation: Galatians 5:25; James 1:21-25
