We are the light of the world

July 4: The General and Specific Will of God

2 Timothy 3:16

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”

Psalms 32:8

“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.”

Psalms 32:8 “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” It is true that God has given us the sixty-six books of the Bible to guide us in a general sense; however we all need specific guidance from God concerning our lives that is not in black and white in the Bible. The general will of God speaks of the will of God for everyone as to His plan for us: how He wants us to live our lives. God’s general will speaks of and to everyone; it cuts across board, it is what God expects of everyone. For example, it is the will of God that everyone be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4). It is God’s will that we possess our bodies in sanctification and honour; the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord (1 Thessalonians 4:3-4). It is God’s will that we give thanks unto the Lord in everything (1 Thessalonians 5:18). All that is the general will of God for us.

However, we need to also receive specific instructions from the Holy Spirit as to specific things and areas of our lives.
Instructions concerning who to marry, where to settle down for work, business, and family life. Some people think they should settle wherever they find a job; however, we are not led by job opportunities or by circumstances but by the Holy Spirit. The general will of God says that you must marry a Christian, while the specific will of God tells you the specific Christian person to marry. Romans 8:14 tells us “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” God does not lead us by circumstances, He leads us by the Spirit. These specific instructions come by the Spirit speaking to us specifically through the Written Word. This is the Word from the Lord to you, which comes from the Word of the Lord.
Fulfillment of destiny as to God’s specific plan and purpose for you comes as a result of finding God’s specific will for you. Walking in the knowledge of God’s specific will for you makes you a force to reckon with in your calling and assignment in life. God has given us His Spirit to guide us into His general and specific will for us. Take time to pray in tongues and meditate in the Word daily to receive specific instructions of the Spirit of God for you as to God’s plan and purpose. Be quick to act upon the instructions that the Spirit gives you. These instructions are not contrary to the Written Word.

My Solid Front (Confession): In the Name of Jesus, I declare that I am taught of the Lord and great is my peace. I am led by the Spirit of God into all that God has prepared for me before the foundation of the world. Amen.

Further Meditation: Joshua 1:8; Isaiah 48:17.
