“For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.”
“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:”
Righteousness is a gift. It is the gift of trust in God; a gift of faith in Jesus Christ. Righteousness is God justifying the ungodly on the ground of condemning His Son Jesus Christ for their sin. Righteousness is a blessing from God to everyone who believes in Jesus Christ. This is the blessing of Abraham. It is recorded in Genesis 15:6 that Abraham believed in the Lord and God imputed it unto him for righteousness. What did Abraham do? He believed God when He said to him that his seed will be as the stars of heaven. Well, Abraham did not argue with God. He did have a child at that time though his wife Sarah was barren.
What kind of trust or faith did he repose in God? Absolute confidence that He was able to perform what He spoke to him. He just rested in God absolutely, trusting and believing in His immutable integrity. Hallelujah! God called that kind of trust in Him righteousness. What more can righteousness be other that absolute trust in God? The righteousness that does not struggle in the flesh; that does not lean on the arm of flesh, but solely leans on Jesus Christ and His finished works, pleases God. God spoke of Israel that all their righteousness in the flesh is like filthy rags, all because they were ignorant of the righteousness of God. God’s righteousness always comes from trust or faith in Him, not trust in the arm of flesh.
Today’s opening Scripture tells us that the man in Christ who has reposed trust in Jesus as Saviour and Lord has received the gift of righteousness from the Lord. He has been justified from every evil deed of the past; his sins are forgiven and the enemy has no reason to hold him bound any more. God is no longer counting wrong against him seeing He has justified him. God is the justifier of everyone who believes in Him through Jesus Christ. Righteousness is an amazing gift, isn’t it? Beloved, are you still thinking about your past sins as the reason the enemy, or God is punishing you? You are mistaken! The devil is only taking advantage of your ignorance. God has set you free in Christ and He loves to let you know it. In Christ Jesus, you have redemption, even the forgiveness of sins. You have the gift and blessing of righteousness. You are justified, discharged and acquitted! Hallelujah!
My Solid Front (Confession): In the Name of Jesus Christ, I declare that I have the gift of righteousness by faith in Christ Jesus, and that my sins are forgiven me and I am justified, discharged and acquitted from every offence and rebellion. Hallelujah! Amen.
