“Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts”
Matthew 4: 4
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
God’s Word is food. Matthew 4:4 tells us that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God. God’s Word is man’s spiritual food. Man is more than flesh and blood. Man is a spirit who has a soul and lives in the body (1 Thessalonians 5:23). Therefore, he cannot be sustained by bread alone. He lives primarily on the Word. Hence, he must feed on the Word daily for sustenance. Our opening Scripture were the Spirit-inspired utterances of Jeremiah the prophet, who found God’s Word and ate them, and they became the joy and rejoicing of his heart. He fed on the Word. It is very much possible to feed on the Word; to eat the Word. How? When you receive the Word, and let it mix with faith in you by acting it out, the Word gets into your inner being and becomes a part and parcel of you. When we meditate on the Word, we open the door of our spirit to it, and the Spirit of God feeds it into us, and we are built by it. God’s Word is able to build us up and give us an inheritance among the sanctified (Acts 20:32).
Nothing builds up like the Word. Philosophies of men cannot build up; the fables and endless genealogies of men cannot build up. God’s Word alone can and does. Beloved, give attention to the Word, incline your ears to its instructions, don’t let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the core of your heart, for they are life to you and health to all your flesh (Proverbs 4:20). The Word alone is worth hearing. Don’t labour for the meat that perishes; labour for the Word. The Word alone is certain; nothing else is. Don’t lean on uncertain riches. Only trust in the living God who gives us all things richly to enjoy. Let the Word be the center of your life. Let the Word be your drive and motivation. Feed on the Word!
My Solid Front (Confession):
In the Name of Jesus, I declare that I feed on the Word daily, and not on the philosophies of man; I give attention to the Word and incline my ears to hearing it consistently. My affection is set on the Word and I feed on it daily. Amen.
