“And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel. And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian: For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not.”
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”
Proverbs 4:23 “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”
The heart is central to life. Everything of life springs from the heart. The issues or forces, or springs that govern life, emanate from the heart. Therefore the heart is the hub of life. Our opening Scripture tells us to guide or keep the heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life. It is extremely important to watch what is in your heart.
The content of the heart makes it what it is. Luke 6:45 tells us “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh”. The heart is what it is because of what it contains. When it comes to the attitude of the heart, content is everything. Proverbs 23:7 tells us that as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. The character of the heart is shaped by the content of it. Therefore it is important to watch what is in your heart. You must give yourself to careful and thoughtful meditation in the Word daily, so much so that there is no room for strange thoughts to come into your heart.
You are responsible for what you think upon, or permit into your heart. The earlier you take responsibility for your thought life, the better life will become for you. Philippians 4:8 tells us this: “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things”. The Word gives us a list of things to think upon. You are not to think upon things that are inconsistent with the Word. Your life in Christ is about the Word. You are responsible for the things that you think upon. Take responsibility for your mind, for your thoughts. Don’t let strange thoughts seep into your inner consciousness. Think upon the Word and you will have peace beyond measure.
My Solid Front (Confession): In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I declare that my mind is stayed on the Word. I give attention to the Word and incline my ear unto it. I take responsibility for my mind in the Name of Jesus Christ. I refuse to let in strange thoughts into my inner consciousness. Amen.
