September 2: Living out the Glory of God

May 12: Choose to Mind the Word Only

Proverbs 4:20-22

“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.”

Philippians 4:8

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

You have an incredible power to choose what to mind, which means that your mind is subject to your will. This is a gift from God. You can mind whatsoever you choose to mind. For instance, if someone hurls abuse at you, you have the power not to mind it. The abuse of people cannot take anything away from who you are, if you do not mind it. But, if you mind that abuse, it will affect the way you respond to yourself and to people. Your internal configuration is affected by your mindedness. In fact, the Word tells us that our transformation is by the renewing of the mind (Romans 12:2).

You cannot allow your mind to be conscious of just anything. Your mind gives expression to your being, and sets a cap to what you can and cannot do. You will transform into the character of your mind, no matter how you feel about it. It is an eternal principle of truth, God’s Word. As you think in your heart, so are you (Proverbs 23:7). When you mind the Word of God, you incline yourself to hear from God. It is like tuning up a radio set to a particular frequency, or tuning a TV set to a channel of your choice. You cannot receive programs from other frequencies or channels but the tuned channel. In the same vein, you will always hear from God when you tune up to Him. If you don’t stay tuned to God, you will hear from other sources. God wants you to mind His Word; He wants you to focus on His Word, that’s how you can become all that He had in mind for you in the beginning.

Proverbs 4:20 tells us, “My son, give attention to my words; incline your ears to my sayings.” Beloved, you must mind the Word that God has spoken unto you. Refuse to let anything distract you from the Word. You live by the Word which God speaks to you. As you mind those things, the Spirit of the Lord will speak to you and give you a deeper revelation of His will and purpose for you. When God saw that Moses turned aside to see that great sight, how that the bush was burning and was not consumed, the Lord called on Him and the Lord spoke to him. God is waiting for you to turn aside from the hustling and bustling of the environment; He wants you to withdraw into your closet so you can hear from Him.

My Solid Front (Confession): I declare that I have the ability to mind the things of God at all times. I always incline my ears to the sayings of the Lord. I am not moved by what happens around me; I am only moved by the Word of God. As I tune up to God, I hear from him, and I know what to do, in Jesus Name. Amen.

Further Meditation: Psalms 1:1-3; Luke 2:19.
