May 14: Proof of Fellowship with God

1 John 1:5-7

“This then is the message which we have heard of him and declare unto you that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him and walk in darkness, we lie and do not the truth. But, if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sins.”

Psalms 1:1-3.

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
Vs 2  But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Vs 3  And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

Our anchor Scripture above shows two main things: First, it shows us that God is Light. God is not a look-alike of light; He is not darkness that looks like light, neither is He a reflection of light. He is Light, absolute light, original light; and the Bible tells us that in Him is no darkness at all. So, there is no darkness in God. Second, this Scripture also shows us that, if we claim that we have fellowship with God – who is Light and in whom there is no darkness – and walk in darkness, evidently, we lie and do not the truth. If you have someone that you call a friend for instance, and he is a very good person and he loves God, but you do not love God, what is the point of friendship? What is the point of intersection? It simply means that he is not your friend; he is only an acquaintance!

When you are in koinonia (communion; oneness) with God, everything God is, you are; and everything that you are, is consistent with God just because you are in oneness with Him. You cannot have fellowship with God and continue to walk in darkness; that will be telling a lie and not doing the truth. When you are in oneness with God, it is so easy to tell that you are; your fruits bear witness to your oneness with Him. However, when a man is not walking in the light, which means he is walking contrary to the Word of God, he is not in fellowship with God. He may be born again, but He is not in fellowship with God.

The Lord Jesus says false prophets are known by their fruits (Matthew 7:16, 20). Truth or falsehood is known by its fruits. If you claim to have fellowship with God, and bear evil fruits, you lie and do not practice the truth. God cannot be mocked, so don’t be deceived. There is no person who truly is in oneness or fellowship with God that walks in darkness. God is light, so you cannot walk in darkness being in fellowship with Him. Everyone who walks according to the Word does not fellowship with darkness. Walk in the light; stay in fellowship with God, and hearing God will not be difficult, because you have become one with Him. This is the spice of Christianity.

My Solid Front (Confession): I declare that I am of God; I am in the light; I walk in the Light; I am always in fellowship with God; I have no association with darkness; I am one with God in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Further Meditation: Ephesians 5:8-10; Psalms 119:11.
