May 21: Giving Honours God

Proverb 3:9-10

9 Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

Luke 6:38

Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

One of the scriptural ways to honour God is giving. When you give to the Lord by giving to His work on earth and to people for whom He died and rose again, you honour Him. For example, Proverbs 19:17 tells us, “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again”. Did you see how giving to the poor honours God such that He is committed to paying back what was given to the poor? When you give to the poor, you lend to the Lord and He will pay you back. So, giving to the poor is lending to God. Amazing, isn’t it? Again, in Philippians 4:18-19, the apostle Paul wrote to the Church at Philippi about the things they sent to him, communicating with his needs. Then he responded by saying, “But I have all, and abound; I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well pleasing to God. But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus”. Did you notice the connection between giving and honouring God? The Church at Philippi gave to the apostle Paul, and he said that their gifts unto him were an odour of sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well pleasing to God. God was honoured when they gave to the apostle Paul who was God’s apostle sent to preach the Gospel of Christ.

Nonetheless, when the Churches in the Gentile land remembered the poor in the Church at Jerusalem, they ministered to the saints there from their material possessions, and Paul wrote to them in 2 Corinthians 9:8 that, “God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you always having all sufficiency in all things may abound unto every good work”. Did you notice that in Paul’s epistle unto the Church at Corinth he talked about God making all grace abound unto them? They gave to the saints in Jerusalem and God caused them to abound in all grace. God always responds with grace to everyone who is a giver. God always honours the giver. How? He gives them grace to prosper in all that they set their hands to do. Stay on the giving side of life. Hallelujah!!!

In the Name of Jesus Christ, I declare that I live to honour God in everything I do. I am a giver and I do my giving in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ and God honours me back with grace to prosper exceedingly. Amen.
