“He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.”
“If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
John 14:15 “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
The Word tells us that God has commended His love towards us, that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). Again in John 3:16, the Word tells us that God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son Jesus Christ; that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. God has sure proved His love for us by giving His Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins. Since God has proved His love for you, you also ought to prove your love for Him.
Jesus’ death on the Cross of Calvary for our sins is God’s proof or evidence of His love for us. The proof of your love for God is your response to His love. John 14:15 shares how to prove our love for Him. It says, “If you love me, keep my commandments.” It does not say if you love me cry and be emotional about me, or dance for me. It says if you love me, keep my commandments, period. Many times, God’s people suppose loving God for many things that do not amount to loving God in His estimation.
God estimates love for Him as keeping His commandments. This means that by believing God’s love for us, receiving it, and acting in the light of the Word, our love for God is proved. This does not mean you will not make mistakes; but even when you do, you repent of the wrong and continue to walk in the light of His Word. God’s love at work in you is what will bring you back on track when you slip.
God does not want you to pay lip service to expressing or proving your love for Him; He wants you to prove it just as He proved His love for you by sending His Son Jesus Christ to die for your sins. Love is not empty words, it is not empty cry or emotions, either. Love is practical and pragmatic. God’s love is full of life, expression and demonstration. Why shouldn’t yours be the same? Go ahead and prove your love for the Lord in practical terms by acting on the Word, keeping His love commandment to love the brethren as He has loved you. Hallelujah!
My Solid Front (Confession): In the Name of Jesus Christ, I declare that I love the Lord my God with all my heart, and I demonstrate my love for Him as I walk in the light of His Word at all times. Amen.
