September 14: Dominion over Satan

Luke 10:19

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

Colossians 2:15

“Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.”

Colossians 2:15 “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.”

Victory over satan was wrought for man in Jesus’ substitutionary work at Calvary. When man fell in the Garden of Eden by transgression, the human race was subject to satan. Man disobeyed God by obeying satan and that made mankind subject to the devil. Romans 6:16 tells us “Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness.” Man was made subject to satan when Adam obeyed the devil in the transgression of God’s Word. Satan seized the sceptre of dominion that God gave man over the whole earth, and began to steer the world in the opposite direction against the will of God.

2 Corinthians 4:4 tells us that the devil became the god of this world. God did not make him a god over the world that He created. Adam sold out to the devil by committing a blatant sin of high treason. Again, in John 12:31, John 14:30 and John 16:11, the Lord Jesus Christ referred to satan as the prince or ruler of this world. When the devil took the sceptre of dominion from Adam, he corrupted the world and made it evil and ungodly. There is need for man
to be redeemed from the dominion of sin and of satan.

Jesus Christ came into the world to die for our sins and to redeem us from the dominion of satan. The Word tells us that He took our place and became our sin offering offered unto God to cleanse or purge us of every iniquity and to give us dominion over sin and satan. 2 Corinthians 5:21 tells us that God made Jesus sin for us, who did not know sin, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. Jesus Christ came as the Lamb of God who took away the sins of the world, and he broke the power of satan over man. Today’s opening Scripture tells us that Jesus disarmed principalities and powers of darkness, and made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them at the Cross of Calvary.

When He conquered satan, the authority and victory won was domiciled or reposed in His Name – Jesus Christ. God has highly exalted Jesus and given unto Him a Name that is above every name that is in the three realms of existence – heaven, earth and hell; and that Name, Jesus Christ, has been given unto us in Christ for use in the exercise of dominion over the devil and all his cohorts. Hallelujah!

My Solid Front (Confession): In the Name of Jesus Christ, I declare that I have authority over satan and all his cohorts; therefore I exercise dominion over all devils with an unquestionable authority. Amen.

Further Meditation: Ephesians 5:27; Mark 16:15-19.
