20 My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings.
21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart;
22 For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.
But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, [a]but by every word of God.’ ”
God has given us His Word in order that we might contact Him by it. The Word is our contact with God; the Word is God’s address. When we learn the Word and live by it, God comes home to us. We live in the reality of God’s presence by the Word. Nobody knows God until the Word reveals Him. God is what he says He is. The Word tells us who God is, and that is who he is. So, the Word of God is the revealer of God. We cannot guess about God or assume that God is this or that. The Word of God gives us the exact, the very specific knowledge of God so that we can specifically interact with Him in truth, in verity and intelligibly. So, we need the Word; we need to learn about the Word. Every child of God needs the Word. I can tell how serious you are with God and how far you are going to go with God by looking at the premium you have placed on God’s Word. The question is: “Are you serious with God’s word? Do you love God’s Word?” Your value for God’s Word determines your value for God. You cannot love God beyond your love for His Word.
Beloved, be a lover of God’s Word. Your making, your greatness is in the Word. If you are going to become anything in the hand of God, you must give priority and preeminence to the Word. We are made by the Word; therefore, we must give heed to the Word. As a believer, be careful not to be so encumbered with activities that you become too busy for the Word. Pay attention to the Word. Proverbs 4:20-22 says “My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.” Beloved, pay attention, give thoughtful consideration to the Word. Do not let going to Church and listening to sermons become a routine without giving regard to the Word. Until you give heed to the Word, you cannot be made. God is “incapacitated” so to speak when you don’t give heed to the Word; He can’t help you. He can only help you when you give attention to His Word. Beloved, just one Word from God can settle you for life. Go for the Word, the Word will make you.
