Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
But you have not so learned Christ,
Ephesians 4:20-24 shows us the importance of learning what Christ has done for us. It says “But ye have not so learned Christ, If so be that ye have heard him and have been taught by him as the truth is in Jesus: that ye put off concerning the former conversation, the old man which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” It is not enough to know that Christ died for our sins, we must also know what He did for us in His substitutionary death at Calvary. The Word tells us that when Jesus Christ took our place, He put on Himself our sins and our sin nature; and when He was raised from the dead, we became a new man in Him, having put off the old man or old nature of sin. Every man in Christ has put off the old sin nature, therefore we have no business with sin any more than Israel had business with Pharaoh after they had been emancipated from Egypt. We have put off the old man with his deeds of unrighteousness. We must reckon ourselves to be dead to sin indeed because we have put off the old man or nature of sin.
In addition to the fact that we have put off the old man, we must also know that we have put on the new man, which is the new nature, created after God in righteousness and true holiness. We are no longer of the old life of sin and disobedience unto God; we are of the new life of righteousness and true holiness. So, the learning of Christ is learning to know what Christ has done for you in Him and learning to reckon those things to yourself in your mind. When you got born again, Christ Jesus stripped from you the old man, the old life, the old nature, the sin nature and made you a new man in Him (2 Corinthians 5:17). Now, wearing that in your mindset, renewing your mind to that is known as the learning of Christ. The learning of Christ says that if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Start minding who you are in Christ; see yourself in the light that you are a new man in Christ, created in God’s order in righteousness and true holiness. Hallelujah!
My Solid Front (Confession):
In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I declare that I am taught of the Lord and great is my peace. I walk in the light of Christ’s redemptive work for me. I believe and declare that I have put off the old man or nature of sin, and I have put on the new man in Christ Jesus. Amen.
