All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly.
God’s Word is not only good for application to meet life’s needs and challenges, but the Word is also good for doctrine. Doctrine here simply means a prescription, a teaching that establishes our hearts in the Lord, such that when any wind of doctrine blows against us, we are standing and remain standing. As important as it is to know how to apply the Word to meet your needs, you must never overlook the place of doctrine, which is having a good understanding of God’s Word, or understanding the principles of the Kingdom of God. With establishment in doctrine, when applying the Word of God and it seems as if the Word isn’t producing result, you can go back to first principles of the Word and find the missing link. So, it is important to have a good understanding of the Word of God. The truth is, if you do not have understanding, knowledge of principles alone will not work for you because understanding is a wellspring of life to those who have it.
Understanding is key to being established in Christ. God wants to meet your needs and much more get you established in the faith. As you learn Christian doctrine, you get understanding of spiritual things and you are established in the faith. God wants to preserve you, establish you and meet your needs. However, understanding is very important to making this a reality. The Word declares that wisdom is the principal thing, therefore it says to get wisdom, and in all you get, the Word enjoins us to get understanding (Proverbs 4:7). So, seek understanding. Go for understanding. How? Get more than knowledge on any matter of interest to you. Get understanding. Knowledge answers the question what? But understanding answers the question why? Don’t just know what a thing is, seek the proper use or application of it. Understanding is a step ahead of knowledge. Knowledge is good but it is not enough. Understanding is the massive difference between Saul of Kish and David, the son of Jesse who was a man that God wasn’t really considering to be King over Israel; he was just God’s plan B, but then, he retained the throne. Little wonder the Psalmist cried out in Psalm 119:144 “Give me understanding and I shall live.” Make that your desire and prayer today.
SOLID FRONT (YOUR CONFESSION):
In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I declare that I am full of understanding of life and spiritual things by the Word and the Spirit of the Lord! I have exact knowledge and spiritual understanding of the will of God in all things!
